No Hint of Hyperbole
Early morning swim today at 6:30. I’m moving today so I want to get an early start especially since I have not packed yet. I feel like I’m 22 again in some respects. I can move all I have (except my kitchen table) in my own truck in just a couple trips and I’m staying in Dana Point, of course, and just moving 15 minutes away. I will be purchasing a proper couch after this move but I want to see just how minimalist I can keep things for a good long while - like forever. I feel like I have PTSD from “stuff.”
It’s cloudy again this morning. I was hoping yesterday’s sun might become a trend but I must say I wasn’t counting on it. Despite the clouds, it is pleasantly warm. When I get to the Strand, there is a little bump on the water. Another weird thing is the shower was running. It has a button you press that will run the water for about 20 seconds, but when I check the shower, the button has gotten stuck and it’s just running continuously. Well I’m sure maintenance will take care of it when they get here.
I head down the stairs and every thing is peaceful around me. I have some weighty things on my mind right now. So weighty that I don’t think I can mention them because it feels almost disrespectful to give them so little space given the limited time I have to write this post (gotta go pick up my keys and get back before the movers arrive).
The water is super nice and I’d say it is up a notch in temperature from yesterday - possibly 68. There is something special about 68. That’s when things become truly comfortable in a more absolute sense. For instance, 63 is comfortable relative to 57 but is it truly comfortable? Many would argue it is not. Of course I know many would argue 68 is not comfortable but at least for me, I can say it is comfortable without any hint of hyperbole.
The entire swim is great. It feels good to be in this water and I’m in a sort of positively anticipatory space with this move I have going today. This will finally be a semi-permanent living situation compared to the last two transitory moves and I am feeling ready to settle.
As I finish up the swim, I pass by the Bob Marley buoy and it is nice to see a familiar face. It’s too early for the jr. guards who will probably start streaming in about an hour after I leave. When I get back to the parking lot, it looks like they have fixed the shower. These Dana Point maintenance workers run this place like a well oiled machine.
